Pet Dental Care Is a Priority at Balboa Veterinary Hospital
Proper dental care is a critical component of overall health for pets. Cats and dogs can develop severe dental problems that not only affect their mouths, but also spread to the rest of their body. Bacteria breed in the mouth, but they can affect the kidneys, liver, heart, and lungs as well. That’s why we strongly encourage all pet owners who visit our animal hospital to perform at-home dental care on cats and dogs and bring pets in for a dental exam and cleaning from the veterinarian as a component of preventive care.
Early pet dental care can help eliminate signs of oral disease and keep your pets’ mouths healthy. Learning how to recognize symptoms of disease and learning techniques for proper teeth cleaning will help you to ensure your pets’ oral health.
Balboa Veterinarian Provides Pet Dental Care at Animal Hospital
Here at Balboa Veterinary Hospital, we provide comprehensive dental care for cats and dogs. Dr. Romero will perform dental exams and cleanings on a regular basis. Cleaning dogs’ teeth and gums at our animal hospital ensures that your pet goes home with fresh breath and a healthy mouth. We also provide cleanings for cats and can perform surgery to extract infected teeth if necessary. For example, some puppies and kittens don’t lose all of their baby teeth, which can cause pain and infection when the adult teeth come in. Extraction can quickly correct this problem.
Between animal hospital visits, pet owners can also be proactive in providing proper pet dental care. You will need just a few items for cleaning dogs’ teeth at home. Toothbrushes for pets are smaller than ours and designed especially to reach dogs’ teeth comfortably. To get your pet used to the brushing routine, start by offering just a dab of pet toothpaste on your finger as a reward. Specifically designed pet toothpaste come in a variety of flavors your pet will find delicious. You should never use human toothpaste, as that may cause a toxic reaction. Let your pet get used to the flavor and the action, then your dog or cat won’t mind if you brush their teeth for a minute or two each day.
Although many pet owners may be intimidated at first with the thought of dental care for pets, the techniques and habits are quite easy to learn. Once you and your pet get used to the feel of dental care, you may even see it as a bonding experience to share. Your pet’s dental health is an important factor in regards to long-term wellness. Bring your pet in for a dental exam and cleaning, and our veterinarian will be happy to teach you more about pet dental care and ways to make it enjoyable for you and your pet!

Every time I'm in to pick up food or meds for my kitty boy I'm greated with a warm, smiling face. The staff is wonderful! If I happen to run into the doc he greats me with a smile too and always asks about my kitty. Always a pleasure when I'm here!

Excellent visit, as always. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Juan Pablo is a fantastic vet--he makes the visits with my 3 dogs stress-free for them. I feel like he cares about my pets' health as much as I do as their "mom". Would recommend BVH in a heartbeat and I have done so in the past. Yea to BVH!!!!
Fast, nice, thorough

I love that Dr. Romero was a doctor that explained everything. He really took the time to answer all my questions and made sure I understood all that goes into owning a terrier mix. My rescue was so comfortable with him, she even fell asleep in his arms while he was examining her!

You guys made room for us when our current vet said that they would charge a ridiculous fee. Thank you for seeing us and giving Ryder top notch service. The follow up calls truly made us life-time fans. When our plan ends at our current vet, we will be transferring to your business full time. Thank you for everything.
